Filmmaker David Artushin lost his father, James, a Vietnam War veteran, to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. His documentary, “Collateral Damage,” examines new evidence that is increasingly causing ALS to be considered a service-related disease. Interviews with leading ALS researcher, Dr. Eva Feldman, who treated James Artushin; U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell; Michael Harris of Paralyzed Veterans of America and others discuss the origins of the disease, its emotional impact on patients and families and the government’s responsibility to fund ALS research and care.
