10/1/15: Flint Water / Orville Hubbard Statue / Planned Parenthood

Posted by MiWeek Editor on

Tonight, host Christy McDonald and weekly contributors Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson take a closer look at the stories making news across the state.

  • Flint Water – Governor Snyder announces action will be taken in the Flint drinking water situation, where blood-lead levels in children have increased since Flint stopped getting its water from the Detroit system and started using water from the Flint River. The team debates why the city didn’t wait until the new pipeline to Lake Huron was built before dropping Detroit’s water.
  • Orville Hubbard Statue – The statue of the late Dearborn Mayor Orville Hubbard in front of City Hall has come down and will be moved to the city’s Historical Museum. The MiWeek team discusses Hubbard’s racially charged remarks when he was office and looks at race relations in the metro area.
  • Planned Parenthood – The government is trying to reach an agreement to prevent a shutdown, and the MiWeek team discusses the Planned Parenthood funding debate, which led to John Boehner’s resignation.
