Friends of Detroit City Airport, in conjunction with the Benjamin O. Davis Jr. Aerospace Technical High School Community PTA/PACSA present the inaugural "Detroit Fly-In" (an aviation Open House) on Sunday, May 15, 2016; 1 - 5 pm in the main terminal of the Coleman A. Young International Airport; 1149 Conner Street, Detroit, MI 48213.

The event aims to introduce Detroit area youth to the field of aviation and the career opportunities available through the community's public "votech" school system. Activities include free flights for youth (ages 8 - 17 years old); drone demonstrations; information on FAA internships for Air Traffic Control; as well as interactive opportunities and other surprises.

Exhibits include: static displays of various planes, helicopters, and informational resource tables on aviation careers & STEM educational curriculums.

American Black Journal (ABJ), the longest running public (minority) affairs show on Detroit Public Television (DPTV) will webcast live during the “Detroit Fly-In.” 

Hosted by Stephen Henderson, Pulitzer Prize winner and Editorial Page Editor of the Detroit Free Press, the show will feature a panel conversation with community stakeholders in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers and education. Expert panelists will also discuss education and ways updated curriculum strategies for technology and skilled trades can increase employment and leadership opportunities for Detroit students in the transportation industry and other areas. The webcast will also include coverage of various activities taking place that day as well as interviews with attendees.
