WTVS DETROIT PUBLIC TV LAUNCHES "WORLD" CHANNEL

Detroit's PBS Station is Presenting a National Dialogue Around Its Series

WTVS Detroit Public Television (DPTV) has announced that it will broadcast WORLD, a 24/7 channel featuring public television’s signature nonfiction documentary, science and news programming, complemented by original content from emerging producers and DPTV local productions, beginning January 6 on its digital 56.2 channel (see cable channel numbers below).

On WORLD, viewers will see public television favorites such as Nova, Frontline, Tavis Smiley, Global Independent Lens, and others, including DPTV productions MiWeek, American Black Journal and Detroit Performs. These programs are scheduled within seven days of their original broadcasts and include several exclusive broadcast premieres from independent and diverse program producers.

“WORLD reflects our mission to connect our viewers with the most important issues facing our community, state and nation,” said DPTV President and CEO Rich Homberg. “We believe in using public media to help people explore their world, understand the issues and make informed decisions.”

WORLD is always expanding its library with content from new multimedia creators, public television stations, and individual producers. Programs for WORLD include independent films in the America ReFramed series; and “untold” stories of fascinating individuals in the Local, USA series, and other programming unique to the channel featuring a number of topical, timely special reports and productions.

As WORLD continues to grow, the website at WORLDchannel.org is expanding to offer increased content, such as streaming video, producer bios, program overviews and images as well as links to producer websites for more content. In addition, viewers may customize the site to receive their local station’s WORLD broadcast schedule, connect to other signature series website and link to social media sites.

  • Charter (most systems) 432
