DETROIT (May 3, 2016) – MiWeek, Detroit Public Television’s (DPTV) weekly leadership and public affairs program will broadcast live this Thursday from the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy starting at 7:30 p.m. The show will feature interviews and in-depth panel conversations about the future of Detroit’s neighborhoods, newcomers versus long-time residents; inclusiveness; the cultural corridor compared to the economic corridor; and entrepreneurship.

The event will be led by the MiWeek team of award-winning journalists, Christy McDonald; Free Press Editorial Page Editor and Pulitzer Prize winner, Stephen Henderson; and Detroit News Editorial Page Editor, Nolan Finley.

Special guests include: Dr. Antoine Garibaldi, President, University of Detroit Mercy; Dan Pitera, Executive Director of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture; Rhonda Word Morris, owner of Lucki’s Cheesecake; Lauren Hood of Live6 Alliance; Kim Tandy, City of Detroit District 2 Manager; Don Jones, associate director of the New Economy Initiative; and Gaston Nash, College Core Block Club Co-founder.

“As part of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, I am thrilled to be a part of MiWeek because this program is happening at a critical point in time,” said Dan Pitera, professor of architecture and DCDC director. “There is a renewed interest in the north Livernois Avenue area, home of the University of Detroit Mercy. More than ever it is very important to blend great existing community work with new ideas; build locally grown businesses while attracting new ones; and celebrate existing residents while welcoming newcomers.”

The show will be taped in front of a live audience and broadcast live on DPTV-Channel 56. It will also be streamed online at www.miweek.org. It will be followed by a half-hour online only conversation starting at 8:30 p.m. The MiWeek Roadshow is made possible thanks to funding from the MASCO Foundation.
